about our leather furniture
Leather furniture, like most
products is available at different price points, "Leather
Furniture by Charles" is, in our opinion, "the best you
can buy for the money spent". Let me explain why in the next
few paragraphs:
-
Top Grain leather is the only
leather that
is used in all of our products, less quality manufacturers may
use leathers intended for apparel, belts, and shoes. The top
grain is the most exposed to the elements, toughest and most
natural looking. Picture for a moment a hide of leather lying
on a large table, a slitter slices the leather, like you would
slice a tomato, "into 3 hides", the top part is the only part
that "Leather Furniture by Charles" uses. The center cut, or
"split hide" is the section that apparel users prefer, it has
no grain, but also has no toughness or tensile strength as the
top grain has. The inner part is used for a variety of
products, including cosmetics. For furniture use, the top
grain leather costs approximately 3 ½ times the cost of split
hides. A store that advertises a product as "all leather" may
be completely correct, even if it contains a combination of
top grain and split hide. Although correct, it is not the
superior piece of furniture that 100% top grain leather can
produce. Some less quality manufacturers may use pig or water
buffalo because of the reduced cost. "Leather Furniture by
Charles" uses only top grain cowhides.
-
Leather is a natural product,
it is not plastic, or vinyl, so expect to have color
variations, the feel of the leather may be different in one
portion vs. another area. This is the nature of 100% leather,
these signatures of nature are the reason for the popularity
of leather. Just as your skin is softer in some areas than
others, so is cowhide. Differences in feel and color are
not defects, and will not result in returns or credits.
-
Top grain leather comes in two
types, full grain and corrected grain. Full grain leather is
left in its natural state, nothing has been done to alter the
grain. Corrected grain leather refers to leather that has been
surface-altered to reduce scarring, or embossed to develop a
special effect, such as an alligator looking hide. Most
corrected grain leathers are preferred by customers that
desire to have furniture that may be washed with a damp cloth
after spills. This leather has some protection on the surface,
whereas, full grain does not.
-
Although leather is a very
tough product, it is not a product that requires no attention.
If placed in the direct sunlight, it will fade, just as fine
fabrics will fade. Avoid placing your leather near sources of
excessive heat, it will dry out the hides and cause cracking.
Avoid the use of sharp objects on or near your leather
furniture. Avoid the use of chemical polishes or soaps.
-
You may order up to 10 leather
samples at $5.00 per sample. There are no refunds for
samples but full credit will be applied for all sample
purchases when your furniture order is placed within 30 days
and your order totals at least $500.00. The sample you select
